Special Scouting Sunrise

Monday, July 30th, 2007

This Wednesday is the special Scouting Sunrise celebrating 100 years since the 1st Scout camp on Brownsea Island. There will be two celebrations in the city next Wed- at the Opera House or at Martin Place. We have chosen to go to the Opera House forecourt where a Queen’s Scout will sound the kudu horn from one of the Opera House sails at 8am. Then there will be a ceremony where the Scouts and Cubs will renew their promise along with everyone across the world (8am 1/8/07 in each timezone).

We will be traveling into the city by bus and as we need to be at the Opera House around 7:30 am, we will be meeting at Lane Cove PO at 6:45am. Cubs/Scouts will need to wear full uniform and bring signed activity form, bus fare ($3.80 return) plus around $6 for drink/snack afterwards (or they can bring their own). Depending on numbers, Paul and I may require some parental help for supervision, storage of school bags and return to schools - so please RSVP as soon as possible.

Paul has written to all the Lane Cove area schools explaining the event, but parents will need to advise the late arrival procedures for each school, and ensure each child has a written note.

Technically, this ceremony is for invested cubs/scouts but we would encourage new chums to come along - wear school uniform and we will bring group scarves to wear. Please download the Activity Form here ActivityFormScoutSunrise.pdf
